Delivering centralised alarm reporting and improved compliance visibility across Leicester University’s campus
Leicester University had been relying on a smartwatch system installed by a previous provider, which used 3G routers to communicate alarm signals across the estate. As responsibility for the system changed hands over the years, it became increasingly difficult to manage and maintain, leading to reliability issues and reduced visibility for those responsible for fire safety.
Recognising the need for a more sustainable approach, the university began looking for a solution that would provide greater confidence in alarm reporting, improve oversight across its buildings, and make it easier to manage compliance requirements. Just as importantly, the new system needed to be reliable, scalable, and capable of supporting the university's long-term operational needs.
Working closely with CDS, Drax Technology helped Leicester University modernise its fire alarm monitoring by replacing the existing smartwatch infrastructure with a more reliable internal communication system, fully integrated with the SafeVue dashboard.
The new solution gave central security teams instant visibility of alarm activity across the estate, with alarm notifications delivered directly to a single monitoring platform. With access to real-time information, teams could respond more quickly to incidents, gain a clearer understanding of events as they unfolded, and take a more proactive approach to fire safety management.
The platform also made it easier to manage compliance across the university's extensive building portfolio, providing greater oversight and confidence that systems were operating as expected. Backed by ongoing support from Drax Technology, Leicester University now benefits from a reliable, future-ready solution that continues to support its day-to-day operations and long-term fire safety objectives.
